Chachapoyas Khipu: 257 Series

The six khipu from the Laguna de los Condores pictured below were all found in the same bundle, tied together. Four of the khipu, UR12, UR13, UR14, and UR15, remain attached. The other two, UR11 and UR2, were originally tied to this group of four. As can be seen from the photos, the arrangement of khipu is not strictly linear.

Note: The khipu are classified here by investigator number. We do not believe the identification of a particular artifact with a personal investigator number to be optimal, but the museum numbers for these khipu are still in flux. Therefore for the time being we believe khipu will be easier to find by investigator number. When the museum numbers become stable the khipu will be reclassified.

Overall view of the four khipu which remain attached. UR15/257F is at the top of the photo. At the bottom right is UR12/257C (with two loop pendants). To the left of center in the bottom half is UR13/257D, and attached to that at the far left is UR14/257E. The attachment between UR13 and UR14 is not as obvious as are the other attachments. Current museum numbers of these khipu are: CMA-628/LC1-257C, 257D, 257E, 257F.
