Among the Chachapoyas khipu is one rare example affixed to a wooden bar. When found, this khipu was brightly colored, but in an effort to clean it, it was washed with soap and water and all the color ran out! Hence it has earned the nickname "Washed Khipu". Also pictured on this page are other khipu of the 22 which have been studied from the Museo Leymebamba's collection. There is not yet anything to suggest relationships between the khipu pictured here and others in the collection.
